Wish Lists (let's talk photo equipment)

23/365

-me with my Rebel XT before I got my wish and upgraded to a divine Canon 5D (pre Mark II).

We so rarely talk photo equipment here—there are so many other more delightful things to talk about—but let’s face it; we ALL use this stuff every single day. We thought it might be fun to dream a little and share some of the goods we’d eventually like to add to our photo arsenals.

Andrea, Maile and I all have our sights set on the Canon 5D Mark II. Purrr.

If you’re looking to purchase your first digital SLR we think the new Canon Rebel T1i kit is a great way to go (comes with the body and a lens).

On the other hand, Sarah and Karen think the Nikon D700 would be the bee’s knees. And Nikon has the entry level SLR kits too which are a great way to start.

Sarah’s also coveting a few new lenses; the Nikkor 135mm 2.5 and the

Nikkor 70-200 2.8.

Kate longs for a wide angle like this one and at the same time would adore getting up close and personal with a macro like the 50mm 2.5 Compact Macro. Let me recommend this sweet sweet little baby from personal experience. It’s the lens that rarely leaves my camera. I would never forsake it...except maybe for this Canon 100mm Macro. I borrowed one the other day and was in heaven. And yes, it’s on my wish list.

Paige is looking to get flashy with this Canon Speedlite Flash (great flash, I use one and highly recommend it for Canon users).

Karen would like to try her hand at Aperture

Stephanie’s getting ready for the Picture Hope trip with Jen and they are interested in this Lowepro Dryzone Waterproof Camera Backpack for the road!

Did I mention that Kate was looking to spruce things up with a new funky camera strap? Remember we mused on straps in a recent post? Well, Jessie of Designs my Jessie has offered up two of her awesome camera straps for a couple of lucky readers today! Check out her smart and sassy designs at her Etsy shop. The built in lens pocket is so clever!

So, let’s have it...what do you have your photo sights set on. Maybe if we put our collective wishes together we can make things happen. Afterall, it is our passion. Why not wish big?

For a look into our camera bags to see what we are using right now to capture the images featured at Shutter Sisters, check out the Equipment List page.

And if you want to win the camera strap, you must comment here before Sat at midnight. Good luck!

This is too funny, I was just looking at new camera bodies today to have as a second when doing a photo shoot (or my son's upcoming wedding). I'd love a Canon 5D Mark ll, but would probably happily settle for a 50D. For lenses a wide angle (tbd) and a 500 mm telephoto. And to carry all those lenses, a Shootsac with a really cool cover.

I am totally and forever salivating over a Hasselblad 500CM. It HAS to be Chrome.
I'm working my way towards her. A picture of her I ripped from the KEH catalogue sits on my fridge taunting me.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteramanda
Oh and for the digital gear, a Sigma 30mm 1.4.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteramanda
Dreaming of a lensbaby..and the longest telephoto available!!!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMarcie
On my camera/birthday wishlist was a canon 50mm f1.4. A few weeks ago I picked it up. I am so happy with it, but I still have to get used to the soft focus....and enjoying moving around for shots rather than using zoom
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenternessa
I have just bought my first dSLR, a canon 1000d. So in love with it and love learning the new and different things I can do with it. I would really like a 50mm f1.4, but for now just getting used to the two lens that came in the kit.

I'll play and dream big. I wouldn't mind upgrading my Canon 5D to the Canon 5D Mark II.

I would like one wide angle and one macro lens from this lens lust list:
Sigma Wide Angle 28mm f/1.8 EX
Canon Normal EF 50mm f/2.5
Canon Wide Angle EF 35mm f/1.4L
Sigma Normal 30mm f/1.4 EX DC
Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II

If you twisted my arm (wink, wink), I would accept all of the lenses, optics, and accesories from Lensbaby.

Other items:
A Sigma EF-500 DG Super i-TTL Shoe Mount Flash
I would like another strap from http://www.myfunkycamera.com/.
A Gorillapod SLR Zoom from Photojojo.
Either a Reese bag Black, Joey bag BLACK, or Kristine Shooting Bag~BLACK from Tracy Joy along with a funky flap and matching lens pouches, a neck strap cover, and a card holder.

Okay, now I look like a greedy, greedy girl. But ... I think I will print this out and work on crossing each item off the list over the next year.

I had to spend my lens fund on a new body when the shutter died on my Digital Rebel last fall :( My lens wishlist is growing faster than my lens fund. I want a 300 and a 50 fixed most of all right now. I also want a white balance lens cover and a SLR GorillaPod.
I dont even know if they exist but i want a really streamlined cover for my camera that would protect it in my huge purse but not take up the whole bag.
Not to steal thunder from the giveaway, but there is a nice tutorial on making a strap cover here:
http://tidymomof2.blogspot.com/2009/05/camera-strap-cover-tutorial.html
I'm going to try it if I don't win. I'd rather just win.

I'm pretty happy with what I have really. But she said dream big so I'd love to have a big huge box of Polaroid film. A Polaroid self-timer and macro. A new Rebel T1i and a 10-24mm. My birthday is coming up soon and I have some $ from a job I just finished up coming in. I actually decided to spend it on a writing class.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPatricia
My next lens will be a 100mm macro and I can't wait!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie
I would like some reflectors. I am looking at Lastolite. Also loving their portable backgrounds and softboxes! A new strap would be devine.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPam
I need a new strap and would love a self-timer and macro lens . And a lens for awesome landscape photography and I don't even know what kind that would be. This is what I have right now;

I just got me new 50mm 1.8 Nikkor lens yesterday and that was top of my wish list.

Now....hmmm. I think now I would like either a macro lens or a fisheye. Something just for fun.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLaShawn
Still a novice and still working with the lens kit. I'd love to add a new lens. Any suggestions? A new strap would make me look so hip too.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjen@ourdailybigtop
I'm loving Aperture, and have my eye on a fixed 50 lens next... but you know, a sassy camera strap would be the bomb!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenter~MG
Oh don't get me started!!! I just got my 85mm 1.8 yesterday and a few weeks ago I got the Canon 50mm 1.4. Next on the list is 24-70L series, then a Canon 50D.. after that a 5D mark II!!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSebrina
What a timely post! Just last night I asked for opinions on Twitter about the Canon 50 mm f/2.5 macro! I haven't logged in to check responses. I also have my sights on Canon Speedlite 430II. Fish-eye and tilt-shift lenses are also on the wish list. Currently, I have:

Canon 30D
28-135
18-55 (kit lens)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKathy Winter
Lensbaby composer please. And a new strap would be nice!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKari
Believe it or not, my wish list includes a really, really nice tripod from "really right stuff." This Cadillac of tripods will set me back and I need to start saving NOW. :)

Lenbabies lens and macro ring flash are additionally on the wish list.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSue Henry
I want a canon 100mm macro next, or maybe a remote trigger system to get my flash off camera. Neither is happening anytime soon though.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTracy Sutherland
I'm going to have to start saving up my pennies. I've just now ventured into the DSLR world with the Canon XSi. My next purchase will be a 50mm lens and a remote. But I think I need lessons before I start investing in too much gear I won't know how to use!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTara
I would love to have a Fish Eye lens - good thing my birthday is almost here!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmy
I wish I may, I wish I might, have this wish I wish tonight! A 50mm lens for my Nikon D40!
(I happen to blog about this the other day!)

I tend to ignore equipment because it intimidates me, but obviously I'm missing out!!!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenter~ kristina ~
My equipment is a Canon PowerShot A650IS.

One day, I will have a Canon DSLR. Any kind will be fine. I am a Canon girl.

A wide angle lens would be nice with that Canon, so I can take proper photos of these Blue Ridge mountains that surround me.

And when I get that Canon DSLR, my heart will soar. I will take wedding photos. Baby photos. Family photos. Mama photos. People photos that I just can't seem to nail with my beloved, trusty PowerShot.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHeather
I shoot with a Nikon Coolpix (P&S). I am on the verge of buying my first DSLR - within the next few weeks, if all goes well!! I'm looking at the Canon XSi but will consider the T1i. What are the main differences? (Perhaps I'll post this question on the discussion board...)

I don't know enough about equipment to even know what to wish for, but a snazzy camera strap... well THAT, I can wish for!! :-)

Have a great weekend Sisters... xox
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjag
i currently use a rebel xsi...
i long for a mark II....
i lust after wide angle lens,
stalk speedlite flashes on the internet like nobody's business...
have flirted with a few indoor photography props
that i think could light up my life a little better...
{ok...the last one was lame...hahah...i better stop here.}
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commentergkgirl
oh my, well...my wish list for lenses + equipment is quite long so i will spare you the gory details and try to keep this relatively short. there are so many things i am dying to try, it makes it difficult to narrow things down :) i have a canon xTi + a 50mm 1.8 lens that i use all the time. but i would really love to add a macro lens to my equipment list. also, a remote + a tripod {or the gorilla pod} are definitely at the top of the list.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterrachael s
Some new Nikkor lenses....probably the 85mm or the 24-70.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer B.
my wish list would be a Nikon D90 with an 18-200mm lens to avoid taking on and off my lens while taking a walk... yes yes yes good to dream.

and those straps with a lens cap holder?!?! genius! i am ashamed to tell you i am already down 2 lens caps. i put them in pockets and forget and i guess they eventually fall out. so a strap that helps my forgetful self would just rock!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterkristin
I don't understand most of what everyone has written about :) ... my wish list includes a dslr, and some photography classes. Well, how to use the camera classes, actually! I am saving up slowly and every so often top up my savings with a gift card from Henry's. It could take a while!! At least I can't re purpose those gift cards for things for around the house. They can only be spent at Henry's ! That's honoring my dreams, eh? Now the big debate, Canon or Nikon...hmmm.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLee-Ann
I, too, have been coveting a 100mm macro.....
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmy N
Dreaming posts...I love these

On my list is a new camera body. I swoon for the Canon 5D Mark II, but I would be just as happy with the 50D.

I am loving my Lensbaby, so all of the accessories I don't have would be on my happy list along with the perfect camera bag...have not found it yet, so I can't list it.

Finally, I would like the 50mm, f/1.4
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLu
Ohmigosh. I'm not sure I can make it through the day without ordering one (or two) of those gorgeous camera straps! But I'm currently deciding whether I want to save up for the Canon 5D Mark II (I have the 40D) or get the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L lens - such fun decisions!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterStacey
I'm just starting so I am loving hearing about what everyone likes - because I am clueless! This site is so inspirational and educational = Thanks!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNEC
my wish...the composer from lensbaby...
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMary
Oh dear. I'm forever coveting all that I want for my camera bag. The Canon 24 - 70 is the top of my list. Second is the Canon 100mm macro, then a speedlite. Then an upgrade from my XT. I think I have a long way to go!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJulie K.
I'm torn between the Canon 85mm f/1.8 and the 100mm macro. And the Tamron 17-55 f/2.8. And half a dozen other things: a Crumpler 6 Million Dollar Home, Canon 100-400mm, Lensbaby Composer and on and one.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLaura
My camera is relatively new-so I don't know how to run all of the buttons yet and I am wishing for classes. It is my goal to "outgrown" the camera in three years.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLe
Ah wishlists... if only it were a list and not a novel!
Top 3 wishes:
Nikon D700
Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G
Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlaura
The only item on my wish list is just a basic, Canon dslr. I've got a dig point and shoot and while its compact and takes great snapshots, I long to be able to afford something more, much more, meaty.
Macro is my FAV. Yours are always amazing.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLucy
A 24-70mm 2.8 lens.... or the 105mm macro...some faster glass please!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBunny
I've been drooling over the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L for a long time...probably will be drooling at least another 2-3 years before the budget will allow me to buy it...if not longer. But hey, i think it is almost as much fun really wanting something as it is to get it. Almost. ;)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterEls
Yeah...my "wish list" would be entirely too long to post here. Most of all, I'm wanting a 70-200 f/2.8 for shooting weddings. I have a longer lens, but its only f/4.5......I want WAY better bokeh:)

Thank you for the post...very interesting and helpful!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRachel
I'm still using a Nikon D80 and I can't see myself upgrading for a long time yet, although if I suddenly become rich I'll buy a D700! I'd lie a wide angle lens. Maybe the Tokina 12-24mm F/4. I'd also like a nice Nikon film body, maybe an F5, but again that won't happen till I'm rich.

Oh and I really want one of those gorgeous camera straps, after the last giveaway I've been dropping hints like mad to my husband as it's my birthday soon!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAveen
I'd love me a Singh-Ray Vari-ND variable neutral density filter and a 50mm 1.4/f Nikon lens. I know it's not gear, but I also have my eye on every book ever written by Bryan Peterson. He's the bomb diggity.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnna/NotAnna
been wanting a macro lens....that is what is heading up my wishlist !
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCherie
Love those straps!

I just got a Canon 50mm 1.8 for everyday. Next I would like a Canon 24-70mm 2..8. I'd love a fish eye too... a girl's gotta dream!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRachel
I'm dreaming of a Canon 2.8 70-200mm lens, a 580EX IISpeedlite so I can slave my 430EX II.

And a cool camera strap.
