Wish Lists (let's talk photo equipment)

23/365

-me with my Rebel XT before I got my wish and upgraded to a divine Canon 5D (pre Mark II).

We so rarely talk photo equipment here—there are so many other more delightful things to talk about—but let’s face it; we ALL use this stuff every single day. We thought it might be fun to dream a little and share some of the goods we’d eventually like to add to our photo arsenals.

Andrea, Maile and I all have our sights set on the Canon 5D Mark II. Purrr.

If you’re looking to purchase your first digital SLR we think the new Canon Rebel T1i kit is a great way to go (comes with the body and a lens).

On the other hand, Sarah and Karen think the Nikon D700 would be the bee’s knees. And Nikon has the entry level SLR kits too which are a great way to start.

Sarah’s also coveting a few new lenses; the Nikkor 135mm 2.5 and the

Nikkor 70-200 2.8.

Kate longs for a wide angle like this one and at the same time would adore getting up close and personal with a macro like the 50mm 2.5 Compact Macro. Let me recommend this sweet sweet little baby from personal experience. It’s the lens that rarely leaves my camera. I would never forsake it...except maybe for this Canon 100mm Macro. I borrowed one the other day and was in heaven. And yes, it’s on my wish list.

Paige is looking to get flashy with this Canon Speedlite Flash (great flash, I use one and highly recommend it for Canon users).

Karen would like to try her hand at Aperture

Stephanie’s getting ready for the Picture Hope trip with Jen and they are interested in this Lowepro Dryzone Waterproof Camera Backpack for the road!

Did I mention that Kate was looking to spruce things up with a new funky camera strap? Remember we mused on straps in a recent post? Well, Jessie of Designs my Jessie has offered up two of her awesome camera straps for a couple of lucky readers today! Check out her smart and sassy designs at her Etsy shop. The built in lens pocket is so clever!

So, let’s have it...what do you have your photo sights set on. Maybe if we put our collective wishes together we can make things happen. Afterall, it is our passion. Why not wish big?

For a look into our camera bags to see what we are using right now to capture the images featured at Shutter Sisters, check out the Equipment List page.

And if you want to win the camera strap, you must comment here before Sat at midnight. Good luck!

Would love a 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens. All I have now is my kit 18-55.

I am one of the few people who uses Sony. I started with Minolta, and had a few good lenses. And, well, things sort of went from there. I would love to have the Sony 85mm 1.8 and the Sony 70 - 200mm 2.8. Both are Zeiss lenses which boast a sweetness I can only covet.

On the other hand, if money were absolutely no object, I would seriously consider a Nikon.

I am lusting after the Canon 85mm 1.2, (it's on backorder right now) and a fisheye.
Then maybe a 50mm 1.4 and a 5d (hey, a girl can dream!)

70-200 f/2.8 is what i would love

You know what I would really like? Time. Plain and simple.

I am continuously inspired by the gals in the shutter sisters community and I would dearly like to be able to take my camera out more often and just play.
I shoot with a Canon 40D, and my most used lens is my 50mm 1.4. It rarely leaves my camera. I love it!
I'm pretty happy with my kit, but when I'm dreaming, I dream of the 50mm or the 85mm 1.2... I guess I'll keep on dreaming a while longer.
But yeah, more time would be ace!
Emma
D700 for me please! Love this list. It is always fun to see what everyone is thinking about!

I love this post! A while back I actually created an "equipment" page on my website which lists everything I use and my wishlist. (Ah-hem.....in the hopes that my hubby might look at it before Christmas. ha ha) Here it is:

http://www.mamaofletters.com/Site/Equipment.html
I would love, love, love to have a lensbaby or upgrade to a Cannon 40D or 5D. Also an upgrade flash. I guess I want a lot of things. Little by little I guess.

I am dreaming of the 5D mark II and the 24-70 2.8 lens. Someday they will be mine!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterShae
Dream big huh? I just got a Nikon D60 with three lenses. It came with 3 filters, 2 tripods, a card reader, a bag and a bunch of other small helpful stuff. I'm really enjoying learning to use this camera and am finding something new to do with it everyday. This is my first dslr and was my big dream for several years.

My wish list includes a better telephoto lens
A macro lens
a sassy new camera bag
a fun/sassy new camera strap
an R Strap http://www.blackrapid.com/video/
and classes to really get to know what my new baby can do

What's not on my wishlist? I'd like to upgrade from my Nikon d40 to a Nikon d90 (I'd love something better than that, but I can't set my wants too high). If I did that my 50mm 1.8 lens would actually autofocus, so I'd get a better camera and a better-working lens all in one shot. I'd also like a more all-encompassing walk-about zoom lens. Right now I have the 18-55 kit lens and the 55-200 VR, and I hate having to change them all the time when I'm out and about. I'm not sure what I'd like instead, because I'm afraid I'd be too miserable if I started to do the research, knowing I can't afford anything new.

my dream would include a husband who can operate a camera, since mine won't - i would LOVE a remote for my canon 20D! and maybe some photoshop lessons.............aahhhh.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertracey p.
I've got a list a mile long...
I would love to be able to upgrade my Rebel XT to a 50D, but in the meantime I would be happy with this pinhole camera- http://www.zeroimage.com/web2003/EntryPage/entryFrameset.htm
and I'll second Anna/NotAnna - so want a Singh-Ray Vari-ND filter!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDawn (elfini)
I recently bought a Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi: and got the twin lens kit. Already I'd like to get another lens - a macro lens probably and I'll go from there. It's quite new to me so I'm not really sure.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjen
I borrowed a friend's Canon 100mm 2.8 macro lens and I was in love! I must have this lens (I almost bought it yesterday, but it was out of stock at the camera store). It literally changed the way I saw the world when I was looking through that glass! Simply magical.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDawnS
Just got my Sony A300 with the 18-70 lens that came with it so I really haven't thought about it. But I guess a 50mm 1. something and a lensbaby would be fun to have. And those shots edited with Lightroom presets look so cool except I'm not sure my brain could handle one more learning curve, lol :)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterclaudia
I'm saving for the Canon 50D. I'd love a new camera strap too... :-)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterdivrchk
I'm dreaming of a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens , a Nikkor 50mm 1.8, and a Lensbaby. Since we're dreaming BIG, I sure wouldn't mind a Nikon D90. :)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersarai
I use a Canon 20D. It came with an 18-55 kit lens (it's okay) and a couple of years ago I purchased the 50mm 1.8 lens (the cheap one. REALLY cheap). I pretty much use the 50mm exclusively, but would love the NOT cheap 50mm 1.4 lens. And a perfect bag (haven't scoped it out yet). One of Jessie's beautiful camera straps would be the icing on the cake! :)

My wish list is to actually have lunch with some local East Bay photographers that have been in the know for quite some time AND ask them all of my beginner's questions. I was blessed with a new Canon for graduation, but could use some mentorship tips and tricks...so wishin for a mentor who likes to eat and teach! ;)
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNicole
I would like a 5d mark.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeslie
I've been renting a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS for the past month after my cousin recommended the lens. He was absolutely correct when he said this lens is like a drug. It's going to be hard to give it up.
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNikki
Well. If we're wishing and wanting... I'd LOVE to try out the Canon 5D Mark II. I'm a Nikon girl, but I think I could be swayed for this baby. And I absolutely NEED the new Nikon 50mm 1.4. A lensbaby would be nice. And a sassy little camera strap would be the cherry on top! I'm sure if I let myself look beyond the here and now, I could make a list as long as this page! Baby steps... I'm stashing dollars like mad for the 50, though! {sigh and swoon!}
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteramanda
I'm a Nikon girl through and through! I'm soooooo wanting the Nikon D700 and the 24-70 2.8. I've been eyeballing those fancy dancy camery straps- love them!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLindy
i am such a beginner it's not even funny. i have a little canon powershot that i love and adore, but really it's just point-and-shoot. i have my dad's old pentax super ME from the 70s--which is what taught me to love pics without the flash. i think i'd have to start with a rehab job for the pentax (i love it) and a flash that not only works (its flash has one of its prongs broken off, so if you wanted to use it, you would have to hold it onto the camera with one hand while focusing and clicking with the other (all manual of course! love!)) but can be rotated to point other places than the subject...get that light, but without blowing out what i'm aiming at. yeah. low-tech, but it would let me learn a little more!
June 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLiz
oh, lordy ... i would love a battery pack for my pentax k10d!!!!!
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercourt
DSLR. Thats it. I'm not a complicated girl. Its down to a Cannon or a Nikon. Physical pain is caused by my cheep, cheep point and shoot. sigh. One day...

After reading about them here, I bought a bag from http://www.shootsac.com, and ordered a new strap from http://www.rileygstrapworks.com.

I shoot with a Pentax K10d, but I want to upgrade to the new Pentax K-7, and the battery grip to go with it. I'd love to have it as soon as it's released, but at least by my 40th birthday in November.
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCamille
I would love to upgrade my Nikon D70 and i am saving saving to do so, but then i am distracted and want to buy a new 70-200mm f/2,8G and a fish eye and many more hours with which to take pictures
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermarcy
ahhh didnt I post here yesterday? I can't find it. Maybe it's buried here somewhere...anyway...my wish is for a wide angle lens for wedding work and a canon 100 macro. Then for a Canon Mark ll..lol. =)
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjody
I have a Canon Rebel xTi with a 28-80 lens. On my wish list is a nifty fifty and also a macro lens. But I'm getting more great ideas reading the comments here! Yikes.
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKathleen O./ko2008
Oh yeah, the very long wish list...... a 50mm lens, a wide angle lens, a lensbaby, a camera bag - rather than shoving my camera into my purse, a few learning sessions re: using all the functions and manual controls of my Nikon D60, and absolutely one of those awesome camera straps!
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjackie
I wish, I wish I wish for the 50mm 1.4 G and a new camera bag!!
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLIsa
I have my eye on that Canon 5D Mark II as well. And a 50mm 1.2.....yum.
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa
There are far too many things on my wishlist to make it in one post! :)
Oddly enough, a new strap is among the things I covet! Cool
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMelanie
I just recently upgraded to the Canon 50mm 1.4! I love it!

I would love a new camera strap!
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLaura
I would love the camera strap. They are adorable. And I would love the Nikon D700 as well, it's my dream! Thanks for the giveaway.
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPuna
i'd love a new camera, but haven't mastered the one i have so i am holding out. for now i would be happy with a macro and the knowledge to use the photoshop programs someone just gave me : )
June 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentergonzomama
My birthday is on Monday and a funky camera strap. as well as a new camera bag are on my birthday wish list!
June 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda H
Sarah, you should know that the lens you've got your eye on is THE BEST LENS I have ever owned. Well worth the investment.

As for me...........I've been really curious about a lensbaby these days and have it on my birthday wishlist. I'm also thrilled to say that after years of wishing for studio lights, we finally had enough $$$ in the business account to invest! Now, if we just had enough space for an entire studio........hmmmmm......will have to keep dreaming about that!
it was really such a good feeling to read from this. the site in general is really astonishing and I was glad I found this and it makes my every day! from this how i wish I could have one DSLR to start with... I know God will listen to my prayer tonight as I go to bed. Shutter Sisters site is an inspiration and it has transformed my outlook in life... KUDOS to Shutter Sisters! I really love this!
June 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWallei
is there any contest I can get a camera? that is my prayer... God help me to fulfill my dream of having one...
June 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWallei
i finally have my dream lens, 50 1.4 and now i wish i had macro, too! maybe just an adapter.... and a flash would be swell!
June 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterShawna
I want lenses, slews and slews of lenses. I took my first ever photography course this weekend and one of the final things the teacher talked about was lenses and I want them ALL, especially now that I understand what I need. In terms of need, though, the class made me realize that I need back up drives, plural, and soon. Also an updated computer to handle the transfer or RAW images. Yikes!
June 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKizz
i want a canon 2.8 24-70mm lens!
June 9, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermelissa
Oh wow.

A lensbaby muse...and the composer. And one of those new Nikon /1.8 lenses...
June 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnne
I have recently lived my dream of a 5d Mark ii...(and my 580EX...my Canon 24-70 f2.8...my Kata backpack and a few other things!) I am SO in love...my poor little back up XSi is kinda lonely...such a good girl...she just can't keep up!LOL! My dream list is still alive and well...I would love a Canon 70-200 2.8...And a Canon 50mm1.8. and a super wide angle lens like the Canon Super Wide Angle EF 14mm f/2.8L . But, honestly, I have gotten so many of the things on my wish list, I feel guilty about there being anything left!LOL!
