play

My son's high school marching band hosted a carwash a couple of weekends back.  They started at 9 a.m. and washed car after car until they stopped at 2 o'clock.  It was a typical hot Southern California weekend and once the last car was washed and dried and sent on it's way, buckets were filled with water and it was every man for himself.  My son may have gotten in a good toss of water onto his band teacher but being the prepared teacher that he is, he was laying in wait with a hose.  Be it a child or an adult, who doesn't love to play with buckets of water and hoses on a hot summer day? Truly, one is never too young or too old to play, and that is always a good thing.

We are ready to elevate the everyday this month! Show us your images of play and add them to the One Word Project pool on Flickr. And be sure to tag your images this month with #sselevate.

Summer Moments

I am a Southern California girl, born and raised here, so it's a no-brainer that I love the beach.  I never tire of it no matter what time of year it is but summer is when you'll find me there at least once a week, if not more.  Sand chairs, boogie boards and umbrellas go into the back of my SUV as soon as school is out in June where they stay through the end of September, along with a large amount of sand that manages to find it's way home with us.

Momma, when I have kids, I'll bring them to the beach all sumer long. says my 12 yr. old, They're going to love it just like we do.

It's summer moments like these that make every summer at the beach so magical and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Today, share with us your magical summer moments.  And don't forget to tag your shots #ssmoment, all July long, and join Shutter Sisters as we play along withHaagen-Dazs and their 50 Summer Moments project. (tag #hdmoment).

moments with the sea

Last week I finally made my way to the beach for the first time this summer with the family.  Of course, the day I chose to go the air was chilly and we had a thick marine layer that didn't clear up until late afternoon.  The kids didn't mind and still spent most of the day in the water while I sat in my sand chair covered with a beach towel and wearing my hoodie jacket for warmth, but I didn't care.  I was just thankful that I was able to sit still for more than 20 minutes at a time and not be home doing endless piles of dishes or laundry. I love the sea and the salty air no matter what the weather is like and being able to sit there, feeling the cool, salty air on my skin was exactly what I needed.

Today, share your beach shots or summer moments with us. And don't forget to tag your images with our new tag for this month, #ssmoment and check out Haagen Dazs 50 Summer Moments project. Tag your images #hdmoment for a chance to have your image chosen for their book.

black

I love how a black and white photo can convey so much when what you may be seeing in the photo isn't actually as it appears.  A simple, everyday color photo can tell a whole different story in black and white, like this photo.

My husband and I had just finished our lunch and as we were heading back to our car, I quickly turned and shot this photo with my iPhone.  Even though the day had been warm and mostly sunny, making this a black and white photo gives it a whole different feel, giving the impression that it might be a cold day with a storm rolling in off of the ocean.  I definitely like this version much better.

Today, share your B&W photos with us.  And don't forget to share your images in our Shutter Sisters OWP pool on Flickr.  Tag all your color shots this month #sscolormonth to be entered in the drawing at the end of June.

yellow

I love Summer.  I mean I L-O-V-E it, I really do.  Being a SoCal girl, we epitomize summer here and to me, nothing signifies summer more than the color yellow.  It's bright, cheery and exudes a summery warmth.  I've also been told that my aura color is yellow.  It is the color of awakening, inspiration, intelligence and action shared, creative, playful, optimistic, easy-going.  Obviously, those words totally describe me. (Well, if you know me, I'm sure you would agree! Heheh).  Face it, yellow is a happy color and happy it makes me.  :)

Today, share your happy yellow photos with us.

And don't forget to share your yellow images right here in the comment thread and in our Shutter Sisters OWP pool on Flickr.  Tag all your color shots this month #sscolormonth to be entered in the drawing at the end of June.
