positive

I discovered this quote recently from a very inspiring talk... It's funny how certain things find you just when you need them.

Be careful what you think
For what you think becomes what you say...
Be careful what you say
For what you say becomes what you do...
Be careful what you do...
For what you do becomes your character...
Be careful of your character
For your character becomes your destiny.

It's adapted from this quote.

As a habitual worrier previously, I'm switching to this thought process, especially when it comes to my creative journey.

What positive words & quotes do you hold close to you? Or have helped you in your creative process?

Please share with us today.

the weather

I wouldn’t be totally British if I didn’t talk about the weather regularly, it’s part of our lives along with drinking tea!

I’ve discovered that weather really can control my mood and my creativity. We’ve had the wettest April EVER here the UK... day after day of rain and grey, it’s sure makes for lack of inspiration to pick up my camera. Then one day earlier this week, the sun & warmth popped by, lifting everyone’s spirits... I was out shooting the flowers, walking bare feet on the grass and watching our cats be free as the sun set.

This day was a much needed gift.

The next day rain came back, of course. Oh well.

How does the weather affect your day and more importantly your photography. Share your discoveries and images.

magpie eye

Magpies are European birds that have a reputation to steal shiny things. I sometimes think I have a “Magpie eye” as I’m often attracted to photograph anything shiny, sparkly, silver or gold.

Whether its a piece of jewellery or sequins on a scarf or glitter or sparkles on the water; I'm all over it with my lens. These golden stairs and handrail caught my attention, as I walked into the tube the other day.

What do you notice today that is gold or silver and sparkles & shines? Please share what your "Magpie eye" sees.

space to shine

Clockwise from top left - Empire State Building in NYC, Nelson's Column in London, Water towers on the Highline NYC, Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Sometimes the way to make a subject sparkle is to give the space to shine.

Using negative space to draw attention your subject can be really fun. When I approach a well known landmark, I like to mix it up a little, by using the negative space around it and have the subject peeking into the frame. The subject is still recognisable it’s just composed in a different way.

How about you? Maybe you'd like to create some space for your subject to shine? Do you ever play with negative space?... please share with us today.

gather around the table

There is nothing more special than gathering around the table with loved ones; sharing hand crafted food & engaging conversation. We should celebrate how grateful we are do this. Recently I’ve been acknowledging the ordinary kitchen table, and the time spent there everyday.

Please share today how you gather around the table, what food you’re sharing, how you decorate and what gathering around food means to you.
