Color prompts are always some of my favorite days. I love seeing the pool fill up with images all the same color. Today we are seeking "something yellow". Yellow happens to me my favorite color. When I see something yellow It makes me smile.
Yellow evokes images of sunshine, lemons, golden hour, smiley faces, bumblebees, and flowers. Like these pretty sunflowers I found on a walk to the playground. SO happy don't you think? All month I have been shooting the daily prompts with my IPod, rather than my DSLR. I love just sticking it in my pocket and capturing my image each day. A visual treasure hunt.
Today seek something yellow in your lens. Elevate your everyday with us.
Don't forget to tag your sunshiny yellows today, #sselevate.
And most importantly, have FUN!
There was an air of nervous excitement in the air as the kids headed out to the field to begin their first day of band camp. Being the high school band photographer, I accompanied them and stood back a bit, watching, waiting to snap photos here and there as I begin to document the first days of the their new season. I watched as the kids haphazardly dropped their belongings on the ground, gathering in small groups here and there. In one group, the 'seasoned' band members talked excitedly about their upcoming junior and senior years while in another corner stood the quiet freshman, looking so serious with their 'first day' jitters. As I moved around, I almost tripped over this gathering of items on the ground and had to smile. In looking down, I realized the story of the day was right there in front of me: bottled water, sunblock, an instrument. So simple, yet so telling.
Today, share your 'looking down' photos. Be sure to tag your images #sselevate and play along with us.
People often ask me if Elevate the Everyday is about photography and I can only answer this; yes and no. Yes, it's about how to use the creative tool of photography to focus on the little things that matter most but no because even before photography there's the art of observation. And I feel like that kind of observing or perhaps better said, seeing, is even more important than the photography itself. Without the seeing, what could we possibly be shooting?
Dorthea Lange said, The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera. Eureka!
What is it that we do each and every day with our cameras? We see. When we are compelled to hold up our camera to our eye, it's because we have seen something that moved us in such a way that we just had capture it. And when we put our cameras down, we still see. The beauty, the wonder, the awesome, the everyday, elevated.
Over the years I've realized that my photography has heightened my way of seeing. Everything to me is photo worthy now. But, it's been a slow evolution, this honing of my vision. But, the best part is, the more I am open to it, the more I see and the more magic appears. This is exactly what elevating the everyday means; capturing that magic in a photograph. Something tells me, you can relate.
As you are open to all that your everyday life has to offer, watch for the magic. Today's prompt is Something Red. My guess is that it will show up everywhere. Please share what red you find with us here in the comments. Be sure to tag all of your images you share through your social media platforms #sselevate.
And check out our partner in elevating the everyday this month, Paper Coterie. They've got all kinds of magic happening over there, like a giveaway(of a camera-eeep!) and fun, free printables from some of my favorite peopleall month long. YAY!
Oh cameras... None of us would be here if it wasn't for our camera or cameras.
Our camera is the extension of our eyes enabling us to see the world in different ways… pressing the shutter and grabbing that moment.
Let's celebrate our tools today and elevate them... they deserve shine.
Share your camera photos today - will hide behind it? will you peek out? Will you create a portrait holding it? - will it be lying around in your special place? - will you highlight your collection?…
Oh my gosh there are so many possibilities, let see what you've got….
